Motion Designer / Art Director
I’m Jono Gaughan, a motion designer since 2008, and working in advertising for over a decade.
I’m currently the Lead Art Director of Motion Design for Garmin, at their headquarters in Kansas City. I’m fortunate to be able to collaborate with a team of other amazing motion designers and art directors who make marketing materials for Garmin’s wide range of tech/wearable products for fitness, outdoor, aviation, marine and automotive markets. I work closely with Art Directors and Creative Directors to concept and design visually appealing videos and graphics.
I primarily work in After Effects and C4D/Redshift. I enjoy every aspect of the motion graphics industry, so I dive into just about all of it. From compositing to texturing/lighting to dynamic simulations, I consider myself a 2D/3D generalist as well as a Jack of all trades.
Jono makes everything better, it’s that simple. In his 6 years with Garmin he has proven himself an expert motion designer with extremely high standards that he somehow always manages to exceed. He is constantly focused on elevating the work for himself and others, dreaming up new ideas and keeping the motion output for Garmin fresh and unique. On top of all that, he is a joy to work and collaborate with too, always bringing a positive approach to whatever the task at hand might be… Thank you Jono for all that you do!
Jono is a swiss army knife! I’ve hired Jono for a range of projects; editing, motion graphics, and color correction. He has delivered fantastic work every single time. He is also a joy to work with and someone that genuinely understands the post process. He always comes with creative solutions and is frequently requested by creatives for jobs.
Every time I bring Jono an idea for an edit or a special effect, he brings me back something almost exactly the way I was imagining it. I say almost, because every time, he has this magical way of elevating the work to a place that I didn’t even know was possible.
Over the last 10 years I’ve collaborated with hundreds of people in the production world. When it comes to who I’d work with again, Jono tops the list. He stands out as one of the nicest, most talented people I’ve ever met or had the pleasure of working with. Typically amazing people fall on either the ‘super nice and easy to work with’ side OR the ‘super talented and can pull anything off’ side – somehow Jono hits both of those at the same time.
Jono Gaughan is a stud. I dig his many talents, and his smile. He regularly demonstrates his rare combination of experience, ability, and great confidence – with an openness to looking at things in a new way. If, in a time of crisis, an all-star team were assembled to save the world, I’d feel just a bit better knowing Jono Gaughan were on that team. And, he has a cute chuckle.
